Lincoln’s Proclamation of Thanksgiving

The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful years and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the Source from which they come, others have been added which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict, while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Thanksgiving Day Plans

What are you doing?

This year my wife, baby Jovie, and I are heading up to Michigan for Thanksgiving. The plan is to leave around 3 or 4 on Wednesday and drive straight on through (approx. 8hrs). This will be Jovie’s first trip to Michigan. Getting back and forth between Tennessee and Michigan is no easy task and being a home body like I am doesn’t help motivate me to hop in the car and drive 8 hours either. Nonetheless, we’re going and we’ll have a good time. Speaking of Thanksgiving and traveling, I am thankful for the $1.56/gal price at the pump yesterday. I hope the low prices hang around for while.

Not only do I look forward to the feast, I am also excited about being in Detroit for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. One of my favorite childhood memories was watching the parade (never live, always on TV). Believe it or not, but Detroit puts on a good display. After the parade, the ever-losing Continue reading
