God’s Eternal YES!

For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” — 2 Corinthians 1:20

Have you ever felt unsure if God was still going to come through? Wondered if His promises were really for you? If so, you’re not alone—and the Apostle Paul has something deeply reassuring to say: every single one of God’s promises finds its “Yes” in Jesus Christ.

Let that sink in. Not some of the promises. Not the ones you feel worthy of. All of them.

“Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees,
And looks to God alone;
Laughs at impossibilities,
And cries it shall be done.”
— Charles Wesley

Jesus Is God’s “Yes” to Every Promise

When Paul wrote this verse, he wasn’t sitting in a quiet café sipping coffee while journaling spiritual insights. He was dealing with tension, criticism, and suspicion—some of the Corinthians were questioning his reliability because his travel plans had changed. But Paul doesn’t just defend his character; he elevates the conversation.

He points them—and us—straight to Jesus. In essence, Paul says, “You can trust me not because I’m perfect, but because I serve a perfectly faithful God. And that faithfulness is proven in Christ.”

All that God has ever said, all that He has ever promised, all that He has ever purposed to do, is centered in Christ. He is the expression of the heart of God.” — Martyn Lloyd-Jones, God's Way of Reconciliation

God's promises—whether they’re about forgiveness, peace, purpose, healing, strength, or eternal life—aren’t dependent on your mood, your mess-ups, or the shifting sands of this world. They are anchored in the person and finished work of Jesus.

He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” — Romans 8:32

There is not one promise of the covenant which is not stamped with the Redeemer’s blood.” — Charles Spurgeon (Christ in the Covenant)

Jesus is God's “Yes” to every promise He has ever made.

A Bold, Joyful “Amen”

Paul continues: “That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” Amen. Amen. Amen! It’s more than a polite way to end a prayer. It means: “So let it be. I agree. I trust You.”

In other words, when we grasp the faithfulness of God in Christ, our hearts can’t help but respond in worship, surrender, and hope. We don’t live like victims of uncertainty. We live as people of promise. We say “Amen” not because life is easy, but because God is faithful.

Faith is the yes of the heart, a confidence on which one stakes one’s life.” — Martin Luther (Large Catechism)

5 Promises to Hold On To Today

Here are five takeaways from 2 Corinthians 1:20 to carry into your heart:

1.     God keeps His Word.
Every single promise He made in Scripture is secured in Jesus.

God never made a promise that was too good to be true.” — D.L. Moody

2.     Jesus is enough.
You don’t have to chase after signs or strive for approval. All you need is found in Him.

Christ is not valued at all unless He is valued above all.” — Augustine of Hippo

3.     God is not like us.
Human plans change. People disappoint. But God does not lie or waver.

The permanence of God’s character guarantees the fulfillment of His promises.” — A.W. Pink, The Attributes of God

4.     You can live in confidence.
Faith isn’t blind optimism; it’s anchored in a Savior who already fulfilled what God said.

I am not afraid of the future, for I am not afraid of my God.” — Elisabeth Elliot (attributed)

5.     Your “Amen” brings God glory.
Every time you trust Him, obey Him, or worship through pain, you’re declaring: “I believe You, Lord.”

When we cannot trace God’s hand, we must trust His heart.” — Charles Spurgeon (adaptation)

Adopt This Verse in Your Heart!

Maybe today you need to cling to a specific promise from God:

  • That He will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5)

  • That He is working all things for good (Romans 8:28)

  • That He gives strength to the weary (Isaiah 40:29)

  • That He forgives and restores (1 John 1:9)

Whatever the need, know this: God has already said “Yes” to that promise in Christ.

Now it’s your turn. Say “Amen.” Shout it out loud! Declare it over your doubts. Whisper it in your prayers. Live it with your life.

If 2 Corinthians 1:20 resonates with your heart today, don’t let it stay on the page. Let it become part of your identity, your hope, your anchor. Put it on your mirror. Memorize it. Preach it to your fear. Let this be your prayer:

“Jesus, thank You that all God’s promises are ‘Yes’ in You. I say ‘Amen’ with my life. I trust You. I believe You. Be glorified in me.”

He who promises is faithful, and He will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:24

You are not walking through life hoping God might help.
You’re walking with the One who already has.
And that changes everything.
