How’d Your Service Go?

Hey Pastor / Church Leader, How’d Service Go?

If I had nickel for every time I was ask some form of that question, I’d have a lot of nickels. It’s usually followed up with the most annoying question a Pastor is asked, “How many you running?” That is to ask, “How many people you got” or “how big is your church?”

Whether you pastor a church of 50, 500, or 5,000, how you do church is more important than how many come to your church. No, I’m not talking music styles, translations, atmosphere, or any like that — those horses get beat too many times. What I’m talking about are the essential functions of what it means to gather as a church body. So, how’d it go?

  1. Did your people gather together?

  2. Did you pray together?

  3. Was the scripture read?

  4. Did the music glorify God and edify the saints?

  5. Was the Word of God proclaimed?

  6. Was the gospel on display? (Proclaimed, Baptism, or The Lord’s Table)

Pastor, if those things happened, YOU DID GREAT! You’re doing a great job leading your people in worship and to hear from the Lord! Nothing else matters. Yes, I want to see churches grow numerically through discipleship and evangelism — I’ve had some successes and “failures” in those terms, but most of all, I want to make sure that the people in my care gather together, read the scripture together, prayer together, sing together, and hear the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus proclaimed! If those things are happening, you have a great church! BE ENCOURAGED!

To God Be The Glory,
