WHY ETEAM?
There is a moment in the lives of many young believers when faith begins to move from something they were taught to something they own. It’s that moment when following Jesus becomes more than attending church or knowing the right answers, but rather it becomes a calling, a conviction, and a personal response to the love of Christ. For many, ETEAM has been that moment or at the very least, a catalyst to that moment.
In short, ETEAM is a short-term summer mission trip opportunity for High School students, BUT… it’s so much more than just a “mission trip.” It is a sacred invitation. It invites high school students to step outside of their what’s familiar or mundane and encounter God in a way that stretches their understanding of both the gospel and themselves. In a world where comfort often dulls spiritual urgency, ETEAM places students in environments where dependence on God is not theoretical—it is necessary. They learn to pray with sincerity, to serve with humility, and to love people who may not share their language, culture, or background. And in doing so, they begin to see the heart of Christ more clearly.
One of the greatest benefits of ETEAM is the way it reshapes perspective. When students engage cross-culturally, they are confronted with the global reality of the Church. They see that the body of Christ is beautifully diverse, alive in places they may have never imagined, and often thriving in circumstances beyond what they could ever think. I believe this experience begins to ignite something deeper within them—a sense that their faith is part of a much larger story. It moves them from a self-centered faith to a kingdom-centered vision.
At the same time, ETEAM nurtures personal spiritual growth. Removed from distractions, students are given space to listen to God. Through team devotionals, worship, and moments of reflection, they begin to discern His voice in new ways. They are challenged to step out in boldness—whether that means sharing their testimony, praying for someone, or simply being present with those in need. These are not just activities; they are formative experiences that build spiritual confidence and maturity.
Perhaps most importantly, ETEAM is a “place” of discovery. For some students, it may confirm a passion for missions. For others, it may plant a seed that grows over time. Not every participant will become a missionary in the traditional sense, but every student will return with a clearer understanding that they are sent—whether across the world or across the street. ETEAM helps them wrestle with an essential question: “Lord, how do You want to use my life?”
From a pastoral perspective (and now as a parent who just sent one of his teens off this past weekend), this is why ETEAM matters deeply. It is not just about what students do during their time overseas or in a different culture—it is about who they are becoming. It is about raising up a generation that is not content with passive faith, but is willing to go, to serve, and to surrender. It is about helping young people recognize that the Great Commission isn’t for a select few, but is an invitation to every follower of Jesus.
There are few things more powerful than witnessing students return from ETEAM with a renewed sense of purpose. Their prayers are more earnest. Their worship is more heartfelt. Their understanding of God’s love is broader and deeper. And is often the case, their lives begin to reflect a quiet but unshakable shift—they are no longer asking what God can do for them, but what He desires to do through them.
For many, ETEAM is a first step— the first “YES” — the first glimpse of a life lived on mission. And while it may begin as a short-term experience, the ripple effect lasts for years, shaping decisions, relationships, and destinies. It very well may be a the first solid “YES” to pursue the mission field vocationally. I have seen ETEAM be that first step where God begins to reveal the calling that has been there all along.
If you made it this far, ETEAM 2026 has already begun! As you read this, over 100 High School Students (including my 16 year old daughter) are currently training in Nashville and will be headed to their destination on Thursday! Pray for these students and their leaders! Pray for opportunities and for lives to be changed forever — not just in the lives of those they are going to serve, but in their own lives as well!
For several years I had the opportunity to serve with the ETEAM staff during training week and I can testify, THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT! THESE KIDS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
